| The many configurations of chaplets include those used to honor and petition our favorite patron saints, Mary, and Our Lord, some in the form of a novena chaplet. The ten-bead chaplet ("tenner"), one of the most popular, is usually used as a pocket rosary but can also be used as a prayer counter for other devotions. Some favorite chaplets: Chaplet of The Infant Jesus, Chaplet of St. Anthony, Chaplet of St. Michael, Precious Blood Chaplet, Chaplet of St. Patrick, Our Lady of Guadalupe Chaplet. |
Irish Penal Rosary One of the earliest tenners, the Irish Penal Rosary, came into use during the Penal Times, a time of religious persecution of Catholics in Ireland. This small version of the rosary was more easily concealed than a traditional rosary. One end of the penal rosary had a long, narrow crucifix that could be hidden up the sleeve. At the other end, a ring, used to count decades as it was moved from one finger to the next. |
